I visited the Christmas market in Newcastle upon Tyne yesterday. The market is small but busy and consists mainly of food stalls and takeaways although there are a few stalls selling gifts and it definitely gives a European feel to the Grey’s Monument area.

I have tried a couple of the food stalls and I have to say I wasn’t that impressed with them with the exception of the paella which I thought was good. I don’t think it’s easy to make fantastic street food and I found the choice to be a little uninspiring however a lot of it is fast food and I guess it serves a purpose as that but the majority is definitely not of any great quality and it’s not cheap at the average price of £4.50 per portion.

The market itself I think is a good thing for the city centre as it is something different and definitely has a ‘buzz’ to it. I always think it is a good idea to have events in our city so my advice would be to visit the Christmas market to see if there is anything you like and enjoy the early Christmas atmosphere!

Happy shopping!
